Our Story: Creating Tomorrow’s Heirlooms Today

Our journey began with a passion for craftsmanship.

In 2001, Blayne Wyton started an antique refurbishing business, driven by a love for history and the beauty of aged wood. But soon, this work evolved into something more—a desire to create brand-new furniture with the character and soul of the past.

It was during a family trip through Southern Ontario and the Northern U.S. that inspiration struck. Blayne envisioned a company that would transform reclaimed wood into handcrafted pieces, preserving history while crafting for modern homes.

From a small shop in Morden, Manitoba, Prairie Barnwood was born. Over the next 18 years, we built more than furniture—we built relationships, gathering places, and heirlooms that hold story and meaning.

We’ve remained dedicated to traditional techniques, timeless design, and natural materials that endure. Receiving the 2018 Manitoba Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year award was a humbling reminder that our success is rooted in trust—the trust you place in us to craft pieces that become part of your life.

Today, our story continues. While our furniture chapter has come to a close, our passion for meaningful craftsmanship remains as strong as ever.

We’re shifting our focus to what lies at the very heart of every home: the architectural details that shape how a space feels and flows.

From solid wood beams that give a room its quiet strength, to mantels, shelves, stair parts, and other handcrafted architectural features—our purpose is to create elements that bring warmth, beauty, and story to the spaces where life unfolds.

We believe that true craftsmanship is timeless.

And while what we build is evolving, why we build remains the same:

  • To honour the beauty of natural materials.
  • To create with intention.
  • To craft pieces that define a home.

Thank you for being part of our journey so far. We can’t wait to show you what’s coming next.
